Overnight fear of a new Covid variant has spread, seemingly with origins in South Africa. This variant has multiple mutations. Mutations are essentially sub variants.

What remains to be seen is if any of these subvariants are worse in infectiousness and or lethality. Second, do current vaccines cover these new variants effectively.
