Tokenized Gold & Silver
Late Thursday Bank of America released a report ( see bottom) on Crypto assets entitled: Crypto Quick Takes – Tokenized Gold, NFTickets, Nasdaq Custody. The six page report’s theme is centered on the globe’s rising acceptance of Tokenization as a form of securitization and custodial type of tracking system.
Golden Bored Apes?
Our focus here will be on Gold and what it means for the asset class. The whole report tells you which path things are headed; The path of easier access to real things, without traditional frictions and barriers associated in acquiring them.
We hope to make it more clear the doors being opened for broader Gold re-acceptance in the global investment community. We also want to give a perspective on other applications tokenization will be utilized in down the line.
First, what is Tokenization? Remember the cartoon NFT craze last year?
That insanity was proof of concept. But things are getting real now.
What is Tokenization?
Tokenization is GPS, CUSIP, Serial Numbers, original contract, receipt, and Inventory Proof all in one. It is effectively a bearer-bond type asset with a tracker attached.
Tokenization to the uninitiated is nothing new even if you are unfamiliar with Crypto. First the official definition.
Tokenization is the process of creating a digital representation of an asset where ownership (and other metrics like location) of that asset can be exchanged (or tracked) on a distributed ledger or blockchain.
In English: Tokenization is like putting a serial number (or cusip, or GPS tracker) on the thing to make sure no-one is using it as their own, makes it trackable at every intersection, and ensures this information is hard-coded for future use.
