Costco is Going Platinum.
(GFN) Costco has expanded its precious metals offerings, adding platinum bars and coins to its lineup. On Wednesday, the retailer announced it will now sell 1-ounce platinum bars and Canada Maple Leaf platinum coins for $1,089.99 each, available exclusively through its website.
These items cannot be delivered to Louisiana, Nevada, or Puerto Rico, and they are not eligible for returns or refunds. As with its gold offerings, only Costco members—who pay an annual fee of $65 to $130—are able to purchase them.
The value of platinum has risen by more than 15% over the past year, closing at $1,019.60 an ounce on the same day of the announcement. This expansion follows Costco's success with 1-ounce gold bars, which it began selling in August 2023.
Analysts from Wells Fargo estimated earlier this year that Costco was selling up to $200 million worth of 24-karat gold bars monthly. According to the company, these gold bars typically sell out within hours of being posted online, with a purchase limit of two bars per member.
As the value of gold continues to climb—up more than 45% over the past year and nearly 80% over the last five years—it’s clear Costco’s entry into the precious metals market is paying off. Gold closed at $2,679.90 on Wednesday, demonstrating continued demand for these valuable commodities.
the word GOLD just being mentioned is leaking sslowly but surely throughout the world.
