The Last Time Gold Did This…

Yesterday’s gain boosts gold’s QTD advance over 16%, the highest quarterly gain since 1986.

Most past precedents are concentrated in the 1970s-1980s -- a protracted stagflation period marked by multiple economic recessions and very high inflation.

And it appears the market is pricing in another such period...

The Fed’s Treatment of Gold is a Problem

The US economic runway is being smoothed for something.

The GDPNow model estimate for real GDP growth (seasonally adjusted annual rate) in the first quarter of 2025 is -1.8 percent on March 26, unchanged from March 18 after rounding. After recent releases from the US Census Bureau and the National Association of Realtors, the nowcast of first-quarter real gross private domestic investment growth decreased from 9.1 percent to 8.8 percent. The alternative model forecast, which adjusts for imports and exports of gold is 0.2 percent.
